796  Online Help Center / Software for DNC and CNC / Re: Boss 8 What are the steps to run large G code file? on: April 03, 2009, 05:10:46 PM
1) Can a .txt file be used? Can a .txt file be converted?

Yes, you can. Simply specify this extension within the program options (Options->Manual mode->Directories and files->File extensions). The program can't convert files and supposes that the file contains the G code program.

2) When I transmit the one .nc file it sees I get a 0040 error, what should I try.

I'm sorry, I don't know what this error means. Please, refer to a machine manual.

3)On the Boss 8 It says load and gives me a choice of selecting DNC and when I push EXECUTE the Boss  puts an asterisk after the DNC. Should I see a response on the computer running DNC? At the bottom of the DNC program I see data being loaded but shouldn't the mill start doing something? I just get the ERROR
message.

It is possible something wrong your program. Please, try to send something simple like:

%
O00001
(TEST)
%

4) I have a 12,000 character limit on the machine, is the DNC limited by that?

Our DNC software doesn't have such limitation.

1. Please, activate hardware and software flow control within our software (http://www.aggsoft.com/cnc-dnc/bridgeport-boss-8.htm);
2. Use a cable with flow control support;
3. Use the Port B;
4. Select the "DNC" input protocol in the menu;
5. Use the trial version of our software (not free version).

It seems that your device uses a proprietary protocol. I'm sorry, but Advanced Serial Data Logger can't export this data. You may try our Advanced Serial Port Monitor software. This software save the data in the HEX format to a log file.

Could you provide an example?

Additional screenshots are attached. I've tested this solution on my PC and it works well. Did you type your text instead of "type1" on fig.5?

How to debug:

Try to activate the DDE server data export plug-in. If you'll receive data and the "Active items" window will contain any items, then the parser works ok. Otherwise you should verify parser settings.

5. Configure the filter for this handler (fig.5) (small correction in the "Place" column select "Any event context item");
6. Specify your sound (fig.6);
7. Repeat steps 3-6 for second text entry.

1. You need to activate the ASCII parser in any case. The parser will split your data by rows (fig.1).
2. You need to activate the "Events handling" plug-in (fig.2)
3. Withing the the "Events handling" plug-in you should add a handler (fig.3)
4. Specify handler name and event type (fig.4).

I'm sorry, but serial printer logger can't notify on data detection. Please, try Advanced Serial Data Logger instead. You need to activate and configure the ASCII data parser (I suppose that you are capturing text data). In this case you can use events.dll as you want.
804  Online Help Center / Data loggers and plug-ins / Re: PROBLEMS WITH ADVANCED SERIAL DATA LOGGER on: March 18, 2009, 03:49:00 PM
Your PLC sends data in the binary format. In this case you should

1. Extract your bytes to a string parser item (with help of the ASCII data parser plug-in)
2. Use the "Expressions" filter plug-in and convert the string parser item to a decimal number. Please, read the help file for this plug-in about corresponding functions.

Is it possible you PLC uses the MODBUS protocol? In this case you should use the corresponding parser plug-in.

You initial post refers to the Advanced Serial Port Monitor software, therefore I've asked about ASDL.

Please,

1. move all plugins to the initial location
2. activate the program protocol file. It is possible the program generates any error messages (look at the attached image)

Also, I can try to connect your PC with help of our remote support tool and fix this problem shortly.

Is it possible you need to download our Advanced Serial Data Logger software? Because this software only can export to Excel or Access.
