I am using the Advanced Serial Data Logger and have it commuicating with our serial device on a desktop PC.
I have enabled the OPC Server and am seeing my data in the tags.
Per the instructions I have also downloaded and installed the OPC Core Components Redistributable.
The computer is on the network and pingable from my laptop.

I installed the OPC Scada Viewer on my laptop and I'm trying to connect to the OPC Server but I'm getting the following error message:
Unable to retrieve OPC servers list from the specified host [The RPC server is unavailable].
The client can't establish a connection with the remote server.
Please check your firewall and security settings on the client and server.

Everything with the firewall appears okay on both machines.
I went as far as turning off the firewall on the desktop with the OPC Server running.
I also tried connecting with the MatrikonOPCExplorer with no success either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to configure DCOM:

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
I'm having a problem in section 4.2 Specifying OPC server properties.
When I click on the DCOM Config folder I am getting some DCOM Configuration Warnings.
And once I resolve them by recording several AppIds, the Test OPC Server object is not there to configure.
The computer is running Windows Embedded Standard Service Pack 3.
Is there something else I need to install beyond the OPC Core Components?
Thanks.

You can start our Test OPC Server from the program folder as administrator and it will be registered automatically.

All necessary configuration steps are described in the tutorial.

I'm now able to connect up to the OPC Server using the MatrikonOPC Explorer.

However when I try to add a tag to view it, I get the following error:

asdlog.Instance.1 caused COM/OPC error 0x800706BA on IConnectionPoint.Advise()
Error string: The RPC server is unavailable.
Additional: Could not establish data callback connection on group ''
Interface address is 0x00B2033C
Vendor detail: AGG Software [http://www.aggsoft.com] Advanced Serial Data Logger OPC server

The firewall has been completely disabled.
Also for some reason on the OPC server 3.9.7.713 tab, there are no Active clients listed.
Shouldn't I see my laptop there?
Any ideas?
Thanks again.
