Hello, I have a problem with Advanced Serial Port Monitor v4.3.1

I have a requirement to monitor box Tx and Rx on a serial link so needed to use two com ports at the same time. I see that Serial Data Logger Professional 2.5.0 cannot do this (disappointing) so downloaded the trial version of Advanced Serial Port Monitor v4.3.1.

I've managed to get this working but the problem I have is that while monitoring two ports at the same time, how can you tell what data is coming from which port? I've gone into the Program Settings, hoping to find a setting (different colours, etc), but cannot see a setting. Is this possible? It's pretty fundamental if this is missing.

Regards,
Mike.

You can define the color for outgoing data in program settings.

Hi Arthur,
I too have this problem. I'm using "Dual ports"  mode. So I have a duplex sniffer cable connected to two serial ports. What I'd like is data in one direction to be a differient colour to the data in the other direction. Selcting "Highlight outgoing data on the screen" has no effect (I suspect it only applies in manual and spy mode but not in dual port sniffing mode). I can have the direction shown in the time stamp but often I don't want the time stamp included. Is there a way to achieve this?

Many thanks
Trevor

Hello, Trevor.

The program should highlight sent data in this mode too. I'll verify it and let you know.

Just to be clear there is no data being "sent" from Advanced Serial Port Monitor in this mode (indeed the send input box is disabled as is logical in this mode). The two directions of data come from the two seperate serial ports being used to "sniff" a serial conversation.

Do you mean the "Dual ports" mode? If yes, the data from COM#1 is treated as incoming data, and from COM#2 as outgoing data.

Hi Arthur,
Yes, Dual ports mode. I can change the outgoing data colour when in manual mode with no problems. It's just when in dual port "sniffing" mode both directions of data are the same (black text on white background).
I'm enjoying evaluating this so far. Looks like a very useful tool. And your prompt response in the forum gives me a good feeling :-)

Could you please, verify the following:

1. switch the program to the manual mode
2. select and open COM#1. Do you see data for one direction only?
3. select and open COM#2. Do you see data for another direction only?

Hi Arthur,
If using a duplex sniffing cable then yes I see data in one diection on one port and data in the other direction on the other port (on ASPM or a terminal) so I know the sniffing cable and ecerything else is working correctly. In manual mode sent data gets highlighted as expected. In dual port sniffing mode all data (both directions) has the same colour (the data is there. it's just all the same colour. Are you able to recreate this? It should be easy to recreate. Do you have a duplex sniffing cable? This is standard operation for a serial port sniffer i.e. that data in one ldirection has a differient colour to data in the other direction.
